Music Minister - Tom Chambers

Tom Chambers is our Director of Music Ministries. Tom leads the adult choir and praise band. His wife Karen leads the youth and children choirs. Tom also leads various Bible studies, teaches Sunday School and helps out with various youth activities. He also coordinates other activities such as the men's trip to Promise Keepers.

Tom and Karen have been married for 27 years. They have two children. Russ is a senior at Anderson College majoring in youth ministries and Lindsey is a senior at Woodmont High.

Tom majored in music education at Lander University and taught music and coached at both Emerald Junior High and Wren High prior to going into school administration. He is currently the principal at Bryson elementary in Simpsonville. Tom will be beginning his 25th year as music director at ARUMC in Fall 2005.

 
Children's Director - Linda Guthrie

My husband, Steve, and I have been married for 31 years.  We have two daughters, a son-in-law, and a grandpuppy.  Our oldest daughter, Jenny, and her husband, Carter, just moved to Charleston, SC.  He is a lieutenant in the nuclear Navy and has begun a 2 yr. shore duty there.   Jenny is excited to have him off the sub and home, and we are excited about having them closer to home!  Our youngest daughter, Katie, is a senior at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC.   

I am a full-time student at Erskine Theological Seminary and hope to finish there Spring 09. God is richly blessing me through that experience.  I was a teacher for 17 years before I resigned to attend seminary.  I taught middle school special education before my children were born.  I took parental leave for 12 years to stay home with my daughters.  During that time I got my master's degree in elemenary education at Furman University.  When I returned to the classroom, I taught 1st and 2nd grade.  I have always had a passion for children.  

I am looking forward to working with the children and parents of ARUMC!
